Happy Continuous Flow
Typically, a small unit that is mounted on the wall, that starts heating water instantaneously when you turn on your hot tap. Once you turn off your tap, the hot water unit then turns off.
Please note: In 2023, the ACT Government stopped the expansion of new gas connections to homes and businesses. In 2024, the ACT Government said that they have plans in the future to stop the sale and installation of new gas appliances, however there are no firm dates of when this will come into effect.
Electric Storage
Water is continually heated in a storage tank by an element, similar to how a household kettle is heated, and is controlled by a thermostat, telling the element when to turn on and off.
Gas Storage
Water is continually heated in a storage tank by a burner at the base and controlled by a thermocouple and control sensor that tells the burner when to turn on and off.
Solar Electric Boosted
Roof mounted solar panels transfer heat energy from the sun to the water in a storage tank, ready for when you need it. The storage tank is either close coupled, located with the solar panels on the roof, or split system, located at ground level. Electric boosting is used as an alternative power solution when there is low sun.
Solar Gas Boosted
Roof mounted solar panels transfer heat energy from the sun to the water in a storage tank, ready for when you need it. The storage tank is either close coupled, located with the solar panels on the roof, or split system, located at ground level. Gas boosting is used as an alternative power source when there is low sun.
Heat Pump
Takes heat from ambient air to heat water. They are typically better suited to warmer climates, however heat pumps have come along way for cooler climates, after some initial hick ups around 2010. Good quality heat pumps are able to still boil at very low temperatures and also have frost protection devices in built to stop the evaporator from working, as lastly come with an automatic electric booster when temps fall below -5 degrees Celsius.
